CHILDREN WITH ADHD THRIVE WHEN MOMS GIVEN PROPER SUPPORT

As a parent of a child with special needs, I know the extra stress and work involved.  For all parents of children with special needs, the levels of stress and exhaustion can increase depending on their children's needs. We try to do the best we can for our kids but sometimes stress and exhaustion can effect our parenting skills and patience.

A recent study in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, confirms what we as parents already know - better parental support often leads to better outcomes for children with special needs. This study focused on mothers of children with ADHD. A parenting and emotional management program was developed for these mothers. The mothers were taught how to reward positive behavior in their children and also relaxation techniques they could use when faced with challenging behavior. The study found that this integrated parenting method improved both the emotional health of the mothers and the behaviour of their children.
