Music improves concentration in children with ADHD

Music can improve concentration and mood in some children, including those with ADHD.

Research indicates that children with ADHD lack dopamine, a chemical produced in the brain. Listening to music stimulates dopamine production.
Dopamine helps with "attention, working memory and motivation" and therefore helps children with ADHD concentrate.

In addition, the unexpected rhythm of music prevents children's brains thinking about lots of different things, so they can focus on what they are doing.

“Rather than just assuming it’s better for a child with ADHD to do their homework in complete silence, it may help their concentration to let them listen to music,” reports Professor Pelham at the Center For Children and Families.
